Production process: The cotton is sourced from the few producers still producing cotton in Sierra Leone, which are mainly located in the Kailahun district. The cotton is entirely spun by hand and by using a simple spinning wheel.

The cotton is subsequently coloured using traditional methods with only tree barks and roots. This traditional method limits the available colours to five, which are natural (off-white), beige, pink, black ( dark grey) and grey. The cotton is subsequently weaved in three differently designed pieces by using the traditional Kontri Cloth method and finally sawn into a pillow. 

Design process: The 1+1+1 design team designs each object, such as this pillow together in an experimental collaboration. Each team designs its own version of the product, but it has to be made up of three parts. The parts are then mixed up into unpredictable combinations. A set of rules is agreed upon amongst the team, but no information is shared during the design process in order not to influence each other’s design work. 1+1+1 is a rare kind of collaboration with no compromises as each studio designs its objects according to their own philosophy.
